The part that moved me most about our Japan trip was meeting the fans of the book. I was truly blown away at Donburacon to meet so many amazing fans of United States of Japan (this was the line for my signing at Donburacon & honestly, at first, I really thought they were there for something else). Many fans brought gifts after they’d read past interviews and learned what films/games I was interested in. One fan even teared up, saying how much they loved the book. It affected me deeply as a writer and I was deeply honored. It also made me want to push my game in terms of the next book I deliver, Mecha! 😂😂
This is Nakahara-san (my translator) and I signing copies of USJ!
This is when I first entered and saw the line and everyone looked over at me and my editor waved at me and I was like, what the heck, this is really for me???
And my awesome editor at Hayakawa helping me every step of the way. We were only supposed to be like 15 minutes or so but the whole session ended up being 2 hours. =)
