“Rodenticide” was first published in Watering Heaven, and then reprinted online in the Menacing Hedge. It’s one of the few stories in WH that’s told in third person, and is one of the stranger Larry Chao stories I’ve written. The whole thrust of it is that there’s a whole city full of rats. After the new mayor runs a campaign to try to rid the city of them, Larry decides to use his filmmaking skills to defend the rats and save them from extermination. Part of the background is a tribute to H. P. Lovecraft as well. I was thrilled that Menacing Hedge included it for their limited edition anthology for AWP 2015. There’s some great stories and poems included. I know they had a big reading event at AWP and am bummed I missed it as I couldn’t go this year. Still, honored and grateful to be part of it. Hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day weekend!
