My publisher, Perfect Edge Books, just revealed the cover for my new book which will be my first full-length novel. It’s called Bald New World and is about a world in which everyone loses their hair. It’s something I’ve been working on for some time now and is my most personal work to date. A part of me was in terror when I finished, wondering if I should really share so much of myself. Fortunately, my editor, as well as some amazing writers who provided blurbs, encouraged me that this was one that should be told. I’m very grateful to them, and now that I see the cover, it feels alive and real in a way I couldn’t have imagined. I wanted to share this with my fellow bloggers. The book is still a few months away, and am slowly starting to send copies to reviewers. As a short synopsis:
What if you woke up one morning and everyone in the world lost their hair?
In Bald New World, that very event happens and overnight, religion, politics, and fashion undergo dramatic shifts. Nick Guan and his friend Larry Chao are a pair of eccentric filmmakers who choose to explore the existential angst of their balding world through cinema. Larry is heir to one of the most lucrative wig companies in the world. Nick is a man who’s trying to make sense of the tatters of his American dream. Taking place throughout China and America, the pair set off on a series of misadventures involving North Korean spies, veterans of an African War, and digital cricket fighters. Their journey leads them to discover some of the darkest secrets behind wig-making and hair in a hairless world.
